Last night we went out for a bit of a wonder which meant that this morning we started the day by looking for a car wash….
This was a slightly bigger challenge than we envisaged as it was a 3 hour 80km trek before we arrived back to the service park with a clean car. At lunchtime we joined the snaking and obviously not moving queue where we were given seemingly pointless and arbitrary tasks for the 3 hour duration of our stay. During this time we had time to make friends with an American competitor behind us in the line who gave us possibly not only the best advice for this situation but also our new motto for the whole race - let’s just slow down a bit.
And how right he was its not in the nature off the country or this race to rush! This advice was further tested by the seemingly well thought out petrol station located in the service area of the race where it took us another 3 hours to fill up our car. In order to fill up we needed to get coupons this we found out could be bought in one of the most remote and hidden buildings of the Yas Marina circuit, it almost goes without saying that at first we managed to acquire petrol coupons which we eventually managed to exchange for diesel coupons after some further queuing. So finally we managed to fill the car!
The day was finished in the same restaurant as yesterday again a fantastic meal! Then we finally got the required telephone cards and now I write to you fully slowed down after the days tribulations from the hotel bar… ;-)
So in summary we are now done with the full a administrative requirements our car is fully decorated and is filled up with fuel. Tomorrow lunchtime is our FIA technical for the car and from 4pm its our safety briefing.
So the confusion from today is that tomorrow our blood pressure will definitely be below 80 for the whole day. This should put us in good stead for the 5 tough days waiting for us from Sunday.
