ADDC - day 2

We have just finished the easiest day….

130 km liaison followed by a 278 km special and 33 km liaison back to the bivouac.

After the start the first 5 km’s was a hard and fast piste which we thought would continue for most of the day’s stage. But it was not to be and the rest of the stage was spent in various size dunes all the way until the finish.

We had to get ourselves reacclimatised to these conditions again and our heads needed be in the right place for it, if not then we had better get ready to dig and start crisis management duties. Therefore we decided to start easy with a safe desert pace thanks to which we were overtaken by a few other competitors, but it seems that a few of them have not made it to the end of the stage.

We got stuck seriously 3 times where one of the biggest losses of time consisted of trying to find our sand ladders once we managed to get the car free as the car could dig them in up to 40 cms below the surface. You certainly don’t want to leave them there as you might need them all again in the next dune 500m's down the line.

The car was great all day and took everything in its stride, “Karcsi" learnt many very practical things today and “Zoli” didn’t make a mistake today on the difficult terrain.

The most import thing is that we finished the day and tomorrows 278 special will be handled by us with that much more experience and we certainly need it as we were told to expect huge dunes at the evening briefing.
